I made this thread because I started to find the game harder when I reached level 64 (especially FH) and I thought I should move to another playstyle, like heavy weapons or automatic ones. People trend to say that laser gatling is good with it but I just tried and the result was pretty much what you said. I said that I was in power armor just for that. It really depends on your own playstyle and what you enjoy. It hits harder per shot, and I find it more versatile The shot is slower than a laser, but packs a punch and depending on how you mod the weapon, you can get a decent rate of fire. You can use it short range or at a distanse. Perosnally, if you spec into energy weapons, I find the plasma rifle much more practical. since you said you prefer being in power armor, you may find that it eats into your power armor.well, power. The next issue is the fact that it uses the same thing as your power armor: fusion cores. It is great if you are always up close but once people get distance between you and them, accuracy becomes a problem. For one, the accuracy is really low for distance combat. I personally love the aesthetic of the gatling laser, but find it impractical.
